Ace Dragon Ltd by Russel Hoban - illustrated by Quentin Blake

Part of the list I look after at Random House are the young fiction books of the Red Fox imprint. I was delighted to be leant this old red fox beginner book which was illustrated with a gorgeous monotone wash by Quentin Blake. I especially love the fight sequences between the boy and the dragon. The book was first published in 1980 and I think it would be fantastic to republish these kind of early reader books.

I read this book when I was small and used to be a big fan of Quentin Blake's. However until I found this blog I was under the impression that my memory of this book was a dream; I am very pleased to find out that the book is in fact real, so thanks! The monochrome is so striking that I can recognise of the same parts of the drawings that fascinated me as a child despite the gulf of years in which this book was nothing more than a fantasy to me.

I have recently been reading alot of Russel Hoban's adult books, and as you can imagine was surprised to find he was the author of a book that I had thought to not exist, perhaps somewhat in keeping with his style of writing?
