Henry's House - Scholastic
Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 01:38PM One of the exciting projects that I got to work on during my time at Scholastic had to be Henry's House. When I started at the company there was a vague brief that we were to be working with author Philip Ardagh on a new non fiction series which was to be 'the younger brother of Horrible Histories'. After several meetings with Mr Ardagh and several beard gags later we'd firmed it up to a concept where a young boy named Henry lived in a crazy house where literally anything could happen. If the book was about the body then there would be a giant eyeball living in the house or if the book was about dinosaurs then we could have a dinosaur in the basement, you get the idea... The interesting part of this project was the cross-over between fiction and non fiction and the way in which this conveyed non fiction ideas in a story book kind of way. The covers, I think, reflected this with bright colours and wacky chracters. Designing the look of the series was a great challange and something I really enjoyed. I felt like a proud father when I finally opened up the finished books.
