Benu Restaurant is a rising star in the SF fine-dining scene. They feature a $160 tasting menu that includes 14 courses, and makes for a truly exotic dining adventure. Asian accents form the foundation of the cuisine, with one specialty being a lightly fried black squid ink chip, which is an upscale version of the shrimp chips commonly found in Asian markets.
Award-winning Chef Corey Lee was born in Seoul, Korea. His mother and grandmother were excellent cooks, and his upbringing inspired an appreciation for Korean cooking, ingredients, flavors, and balance. "Asian Fusion" is a popular restaurant concept these days, but Lee seems to think this idea is over-hyped and he doesn't try too hard to make cuisine that fits this category. As he says, "We cook what we're inspired to; the incorporation happens naturally".
